Feeling Discouraged Doing Regular Auditions as a Voice Talent?

Feeling discouraged marketing on P2P websites, directories and doing auditiions as a Voice Talent? Totally get why that stings – voice-over auditions can feel especially personal. Here is my advice when talking to students and voice talent who feel discouraged. Remember, you have to be in the game to win!

Take a short break

Don’t be affraid to walk away for a week, or so and let you mind rest. It can be a real test to see if you miss the industry, and even give you much needed rest mentally. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIB9o2tvqcY

Maybe it is not you

I know it’s discouraging, but not booking doesn’t mean you’re not good enough,  it usually just means you weren’t what that project needed. Your voice is solid, and the right match will land.

Beauty is in the ear of the beholder

Voice-over auditions are wild, most jobs come down to tiny preferences you can’t control. Getting auditions means you’re doing something right and the prospect hears someting unique in your delivery. Times it is a numbers game, and not a talent to talent issue.

Auditions are not always about landing the gig

Rejection in VO isn’t rejection of you. It’s just part of being in the room. Every audition is practice, exposure, and momentum, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

Just stay the course

This part sucks, but it doesn’t define you. Keep going, your voice belongs somewhere specific, and it’ll click.
It’s not a JOB, it is a hobby
Be sure you’re in it for the right reasons. This is a hobby like playing music, sports, cooking, and even the arts. At least sometimes, you might even get paid for your work.Gotta love it or leave it.
